Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high…

Sorry “analysts and experts”: You have been wrong with your projections. Sorry journalists and education writers: You have recycled the misinformation fed by the the various bodies and incorrectly reported the enrolment data as actual outbounds from a country. Sorry Government Planners and spin-doctors: You have incorrectly strategised your efforts. I am presenting the official “actual visa grant” data of outgoing students to FIVE of the key Education Destinations (USA, UK, Australia, Canada and NZ) indicating that the student numbers have declined from India and from over 150,000 in 2009 to 60,000 last year and are declining “overall” and I estimate that it will be about 50,000 at the end of this year 2013.

Statistics can lie. Projections can be faulty but well, the student visa grant numbers, cannot be mis-reported. They are the real trends…

That’s exactly what the blog is about. Fewer students going overseas and overall numbers are one third now.

Opportunities are more now days. In the past 5 years there are many new education providers in India who have come into the market they are marketing aggressively and promise all sorts of goodies and bright future, adding to this is the IT jobs boom in India, students get to join companies either directly or for internships.

The removal of post study work in UK and stricter norms for migration in various countries has led to this decline. In addition to this, many students in recent years went abroad for cheap value less courses at dodgy providers, so they did not achieve a great deal of success and now students here believe that going abroad is not that great and look for opportunities here

International Education actually adds great value to a student. It opens up options and adds to one’s personality. It can also open global opportunities thereafter. However studies should be the first goal.

Totally in agreement with you that studies should be the first goal, but now a days students don’t think in this way, the hopeless colleges in India too are marketing themselves with
“great future” tags and this has become a habit.

PSW not available for students in UK, we have seen huge decline, in the same way NZ is granting work visa after studies, we have seen a rise in numbers.
